Fully Configurable Alert Rules

Every fleet is different. Frontrac lets you configure thresholds, delivery channels, and recipients for each alert type individually. Set different rules per fleet, per vehicle group, or per geofence zone.

  • Set speed thresholds per fleet or per geofence zone (e.g., 15 mph in parking lots, 70 mph on highways)
  • Choose which channels (SMS, push, email) fire for each severity level
  • Assign specific recipients per alert type: manager gets engine faults, dispatcher gets geofence alerts
  • Quiet hours configuration to suppress non-critical alerts during off-hours
  • Escalation chains: if no acknowledgment within 15 minutes, alert escalates to the next person

Three Severity Tiers

Every alert is classified by severity so you can prioritize response and configure delivery channels accordingly.

Critical

Immediate attention required. These alerts indicate safety hazards, vehicle damage risk, or emergency situations. Delivered on all channels simultaneously with no delay. Examples: speeding, geofence breach, panic button, engine fault codes.

Warning

Action needed within hours. These alerts flag conditions that could escalate if not addressed. Delivered via push and email by default, SMS optional. Examples: low battery voltage, idle threshold exceeded, coolant trending up.

Informational

Awareness items that require planning, not urgency. Delivered via email or daily digest. These keep your fleet on track for compliance and maintenance schedules. Examples: maintenance due, license expiration approaching, parts inventory low.

  • Speeding

    Triggered when a vehicle exceeds the configured speed threshold. Thresholds are configurable per fleet or per geofence zone, so a school zone can have a 20 mph limit while a highway corridor allows 75 mph. The alert includes the vehicle name, driver, speed recorded, speed limit, GPS location, and a direct map link.

  • Geofence Breach

    Fires when a vehicle enters or exits a defined geofence boundary. Configurable for entry-only, exit-only, or both. Used for yard management, route compliance, restricted area enforcement, and customer site arrival notifications. Includes timestamp, direction (in/out), and duration inside the zone.

  • Engine Fault Code (DTC)

    Triggered when the OBD-II port reports a diagnostic trouble code. The alert includes the DTC code, its plain-English description, severity level (emissions, drivetrain, safety), and recommended action. Critical faults like transmission errors or brake system codes are flagged as highest priority.

  • DTC Recurring

    Escalation alert that fires on the third occurrence of the same diagnostic trouble code on the same vehicle. A single DTC might be a sensor glitch, but three occurrences indicate a real mechanical problem requiring immediate attention. Includes full occurrence history with dates.

  • Predictive Failure Warning

    Generated by Frontrac's AI engine when pattern analysis flags a vehicle at high risk of component failure. The system analyzes DTC patterns, mileage, maintenance history, and fleet-wide failure data to predict problems before they strand a vehicle. Includes the predicted component, confidence level, and recommended preventive action.

  • Panic / Emergency Button

    Triggered when a driver presses the physical emergency button wired to the Teltonika FMB140 digital input. Sends an immediate SMS to all configured emergency contacts with the exact GPS coordinates, vehicle identification, and a Google Maps link. Designed for driver emergencies, hijacking, or roadside breakdowns requiring urgent help.

  • Risk Score Threshold

    Fires when a vehicle's AI risk score crosses a danger threshold. Yellow alert at score 60, Red alert at score 80. The risk score combines DTC frequency, maintenance compliance, mileage, age, and predictive failure indicators into a single 0–100 number. High-risk vehicles should be pulled from service for inspection.

  • Low Battery Voltage

    Triggered when the vehicle battery voltage drops below a healthy threshold, typically before the battery dies completely. Gives fleet managers time to schedule a battery replacement rather than dealing with a no-start situation in the field. Especially critical for vehicles parked outdoors in South Texas summer heat.

  • Idle Time Threshold

    Fires when a vehicle idles continuously beyond the configured duration (default: 10 minutes, configurable per fleet). Extended idling wastes fuel, increases emissions, and accelerates engine wear. The alert includes idle duration, fuel estimated wasted, GPS location, and the assigned driver.

  • After-Hours Movement

    Triggered when a vehicle moves outside its scheduled operating hours. Configurable per vehicle or fleet with separate weekday and weekend schedules. Detects unauthorized use, theft, or drivers operating outside their assigned shifts. Includes the time of movement, GPS location, and whether the ignition was on.

  • Coolant Temperature Trending

    Fires when engine coolant temperature shows an upward trend over time, even if it has not yet reached the critical overheat threshold. Early detection prevents catastrophic engine damage. Particularly important in South Texas where ambient temperatures regularly exceed 100°F and cooling systems are under constant stress.

  • Fuel Efficiency Drop

    Triggered when a vehicle's fuel efficiency drops more than 15% from its established baseline. Indicates potential mechanical issues (dirty air filter, fuel injector problems, tire pressure), driving behavior changes, or unauthorized fuel card usage. Includes the baseline MPG, current MPG, and percentage deviation.

  • Pre-Trip Inspection Failed

    Fires when a driver completes a pre-trip inspection and logs one or more defects. The alert includes the defect category (tires, brakes, lights, fluids, body damage), severity, driver notes, and photos if attached. Failed inspections can automatically generate a work order in the maintenance module.

  • Maintenance Due

    Triggered when a vehicle reaches a scheduled maintenance milestone, either by mileage or by calendar time. Oil changes, tire rotations, brake inspections, transmission service, and any custom PM schedule you define. Includes the service type, current mileage, target mileage, and days until due.

  • Driver License Expiration

    Sends two notifications: the first at 30 days before expiration, and the second at 7 days before expiration. Gives drivers and fleet managers ample time to handle renewal. If the license expires without renewal, the driver profile is flagged and vehicle assignment is blocked until updated.

  • Vehicle Registration Expiration

    Monitors vehicle registration expiration dates and sends alerts at 30 and 7 days prior, matching the driver license alert cadence. Operating a vehicle with expired registration violates state law and voids insurance coverage. The alert includes the vehicle, plate number, registration state, and expiration date.

  • Work Order Overdue

    Fires when a maintenance work order has not been completed within the defined SLA timeframe. Keeps the maintenance team accountable and ensures vehicles are not left waiting in the shop longer than necessary. Includes the work order number, vehicle, assigned mechanic, days overdue, and original due date.

  • Parts Inventory Low

    Triggered when a tracked part's quantity drops below the configured reorder point. Ensures your maintenance shop never runs out of oil filters, brake pads, or any other consumable part. Includes the part name, current quantity, reorder point, preferred vendor, and estimated reorder cost.
